A variety of highly effective targeted multi-sensory activities directly develop essential reading skills to establish correct phonologic processing. Carefully targeted activities integrate visual, kinetic, oral and auditory processes to help the child or student master proficient reading. The ‘sound tile’ activities are particularly effective in helping develop correct phonologic processing.

The tools for Reading Success

Right Track Reading’s  ‘word making’ activities with the sound tiles

The instructor says, Please make the word “speech” for me: The child makes the word with the sound tiles, laying down the appropriate ‘sound tile’ on the template and  saying and blending the individual sounds as he picks up tiles to make the word “/s//p//ee//ch/”; After making the word, the student again sounds out the word using physical finger tracking. The student then clears the tiles and the instructor asks the student to make another word.  To preview sample lessons of this highly effective word making activity see:

Right Track Reading’s  ‘sound changing’ activity with the sound tiles

The instructor says, Please make the word “stamp” for me: The student makes the word with the sound tiles as described in the word making activity above. However, after making the word the student does not clear the template. Instead, the instructor says, “You made the word ‘stamp’, Now please change the sound to make the word ‘stomp’”.  The student listens and makes the appropriate change and then reads the new word.  To preview sample lessons of this highly effective word making activity see:

Right Track Reading Lessons uses ‘sound tiles’ in the work making and sound changing . activities to directly and effectively develop phonemic awareness, reinforce directional tracking, create a direct and automatic link between printed letters and sounds, teach smooth sound blending and establish correct phonologic processing so they learn to read proficiently. These 'sound tiles' enable the student to clearly see and physically manipulate the phonetic structure of our language.  By design these multisensory activities require correct phonologic processing of print. These activities help your child or student develop the correct phonologic neural pathways necessary for proficient reading.

The Right Track Reading Lessons programs use practice with ‘sound cards’ and ‘sound tiles’ as well as the effective technique of ‘writing the sounds’ to directly develop print=sound knowledge of the phonemic code.
